Pupils at AHS were given the opportunity, with the support of Leigh Leopards community trust, to take part in the RFL’s Inspired by 9’s Rugby competition. The aim of the tournament was to allow pupils who are new to the sport to experience a taster of Rugby League, hopefully leading to further engagement in the full-sided versions either at school or with a local community team. The pupils involved showed great ambition and determination, in what for most of them was their first ever competitive game of rugby. The pupils worked really hard in very warm conditions and supported each other throughout the day. After starting with 3 defeats against some really strong opposition the team regrouped and ended the day with a draw and win in their final game! Special mention to Enzo who, as one of the only pupils who regularly played rugby, continually offered support and motivation to his less experienced peers.
